COUNCIL MEETING
Present: Alderman Rob Powers, Alderman Larry Bradshaw, Alderman Scott Bradshaw, Alderman Warren Coulson, Mayor Goewey, Clerk Judy Bradshaw and Engineer Max Middendorf.
Absent: Alderman Dwight Dunham, Tom McCarter and Treasurer Dawn Manson.
Mayor Goewey informed the council of the Pike County Chamber supper at the Crossroads at 6:30 p.m. If anyone is interested please give me your name by Friday as they need to reserve tickets.
Next Mayor told the council that the water plant was ready for testing and that would be done Monday, March 10 at 11 a.m. The engineer and contractors will be here to participate. Max said that the well at Valley will need to be cleaned and samples sent to EPA. The current payment due to Vinson and Sill Inc. is $18,513.63.
The council needs to be thinking about repairing the sewer throughout the city as there is excessive inflow into the system.
Alderman Coulson made a motion to close the streets as done yearly for the Apple Festival in September with a second by Alderman Scott Bradshaw. All voted yea. Motion passed.
Next Alderman Larry Bradshaw made a motion to donate $300 to the school prom this year with a second by Alderman Powers. All voted yea. Motion passed.
Donations for the fair and booster club will addressed next meeting.
Mayor Goewey stressed we needed to address the sewer issue at Chad Leenerts. He will talk to them about options to their solution. He also mentioned that there will be grant monies released for infrastructures and we will make an effort to receive some of the benefits for our city. Also he presented the idea of trading the Massey tractor for a Bobcat. The council approved the idea of him asking around.
Next Mayor Goewey said that Pike County Water had hooked onto Shinn Lane, Bingham’s and Dunhams. There may be the possibility that Curry’s will add to them later.
Alderman Coulson said that Greg Brown would like the city to smooth his bank out that the city had to dig into so that he can mow it this summer. They also need to fill in where the new hydrant was installed at the Boarding Home.
Alderman Coulson made a motion to enter closed session with a second from Alderman Larry Bradshaw to discuss personnel.
The meeting re-opened with the decision to hire two students for summertime help and to shut down the tourist center unless we can receive some type of aide.
Alderman Larry Bradshaw made a motion to adjourn with a second by Alderman Powers. All voted yea. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
